Comparing Futures Prop Firms in 2026: Build a Shortlist Around Your Strategy
A useful futures prop-firm shortlist should identify accounts worth investigating, not imply that the most visible brand is the best choice for every trader. Your execution routine and financial limits should determine which products reach the final comparison.

Turn your trading history into requirements
Write a one-page description of the strategy before opening a pricing page. Include the instruments, session, typical stop distance, holding period and largest historical adverse excursion. Add the software and order controls you actually use. This document becomes a filter rather than a wish list.
For illustration, a trader who needs twelve points of room should calculate that dollar exposure for the intended contract size before comparing any account label. If the permitted size cannot express the strategy inside the available loss capacity, remove that candidate rather than changing the method to justify the purchase.
Ask for worked account examples
Request a calculation showing what happens after a profitable session, a subsequent loss and a withdrawal. Use the same hypothetical sequence for each candidate. Record the answer beside the relevant contract clause so that sales explanations can be checked against written conditions.
Then test the operational details in a demonstration environment where available. Can you cancel orders quickly, manage partial exits and recover from a disconnected session? Can you obtain a clear answer from support about an ambiguous rule?
Make the final decision repeatable
Keep a dated comparison containing the selected product, total expected fees, legal counterparty and unresolved questions. Choose only after the unresolved points that affect your strategy are answered. A shortlist is successful when it reduces uncertainty and prevents an unsuitable purchase; it does not need to produce a universal winner.
